shade of swords

Abdillah ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: On one occasion of battle, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) waited until the sun came to Zuhr time, then he stood before the people [army] and said: "O people, do not desire to meet the enemy [i.e. do not wish for war], and ask Allah for well-being. But if you do meet the enemy, then be patient, and know: indeed paradise is beneath the shadows of swords."

Then the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) prayed: "O Allah, Sender of the Book, Mover of the clouds, Destroyer of the alliances: destroy them, and grant us victory over them."
