Stuttered out a painful question to the teacher, summary of the answer being:
· Studying the likes of aqidah [theology] and fiqh [law/jurisprudence] alone can, (and most probably will), lead to arrogance.
· Study spirituality alongside it, to keep yourself in check.
· 21st century tasawwuf - just read Shama'il.
May Allah (most wise and kind) grant us determination with gentleness, resolve with patience.
Subhana Llah! How wise! particularly the part on shama'il.
ReplyDeleteOne of the Ba 'Alawi masters used to insist that for every book of fiqh he taught, he would teach a book of tasawwuf alongside it.
shaykh H was actually quoting shaykh Murabit al-Hajj (Allah preserve him and grant him excellent health), regarding the Shama'il bit :)
